About Founder

“Born into a destitute family of seven children in Ilkal, Bagalkote district of Karnataka State. Raghu faced tremendous challenges. His mother had leprosy, and he had polio when he was young, which made life even harder. The absence of inclusive school infrastructure denied him formal education, pushing him to beg for a living at just 15 years.
Raghu did not give up and found a night school and studied up to the 7th grade. During this time, he saw that women with disabilities had tough time too. So, he got together with 30-40 people from his community to ask the government for better and more inclusive facilities.
Collectively, they started an organization called Ashadeepa Angavikalara Sarva Abhiwruddhi Seva Samsthe in 2014. Everyone leading this organization has a disability or has someone in their family with a disability. In the beginning, Ashadeepa helped people with disabilities learn new skills and organized events to showcase their skills.
Raghu’s activism also addressed the atrocities against women with disabilities. He worked tirelessly to involve the police for protection, understanding that true empowerment necessitated education and employment opportunities. Because of Raghu Hubballi’s visionary leadership, Ashadeepa is now an organization that helps people with disabilities and their families. They support women and children who are often left out through programs that help with education, health, and livelihood opportunities.
